What is a Back Pack Program?
A Back Pack Program is an amazing program that gives back to the Community. It represents a local community coming together to take care of their hungry children. Partnering with non-profits, faith based organizations, and the local school system the community comes together through volunteers to supply children in need with meals to last them the weekend. Most programs supply between 4 and 8 meals per child.
The food is donated or purchased locally. The community volunteers come together to sort and pack the food into individual bags that can fit in a child's pack pack. The individual bags are then donated to the local schools where they are distributed to children in need.
Facts on Hunger in Florida
Every day 860,000 children go to bed hungry in our State. That is 1 out of every 5 children in our Local Communities. In South Florida alone 300,000 children go to bed hungry. That's 1 in 4.
Fresh and Local Meals along with our partners are providing over 5,000 meals per month to children in local Florida communities.
Just 1 Dollar per week buys a child meals for the weekend.
100% of all funds collected goes to buy food for community back pack programs.
